One day there’s a toddler in the frame over the mantle… and then suddenly, that toddler is a teenager.
This family hadn’t updated their wall portrait since their youngest was two. It’s time for a refresh!
In the studio, we created a series of portraits — individual images, and a few together. When they returned for their ordering appointment, they watched the slideshow just as it’s shown here.
Note: This slideshow contains unretouched photos, shown to the clients right away since they were traveling to Calotype from out of state and we needed to create and choose images on the same day. Later, my retoucher and I went back through to fix the shirt gap, glass glare, etc. Any purchased images from Calotype are always retouched.
And then came the hard part- they loved too many of them!
Rather than force a single choice, we designed a custom collage together, shaping it around their favorites. It takes a bit of time to thoughtfully move images around because I want the final piece to look like one cohesive work of art, versus some random images thrown together. The finished piece is a 30x38 Signature Canvas: rich warm colors, sharp details, stretched over an hidden, solid wood frame for a clean finish. The size was chosen because it perfectly fits their mantle space - a truly custom piece of art.
Their design proof is below. Note the printed version will not have a logo- that’s just for my website.
Update:
Their mother sent me a picture of the Canvas at home on the mantle. Do you like it?
